What is G20?

The G20 is evidence of the coming together of significant geographic regions united by shared goals. Regional groups function as underlying elements that collectively reflect a shared vision, unity, shared prosperity, and multilateral friendliness in the field of international affairs. Twenty countries came together in 1999 to form what is now known as the G20.

The G20 was established as a result of the Asian financial crisis. The economies of these nations, which collectively attempt to coordinate and collaborate to develop global policies on topics like trade, health, climate change, economic crisis, and others, comprise the greatest economies in the world. G20 countries account for 80% of global economic production, 75% of exports, and 60% of global population.

History of G20 Summit

The Group of Twenty, or G20, is an international organisation made up of the main economies in the world. It was founded in 1999 as a response to the worldwide financial crisis with the objective of fostering economic stability and collaboration on a global scale. Following the Asian financial crisis, the G20 was established in 1999 to provide a forum for major economies to discuss and coordinate economic policy.

The European Union and the finance ministers and governors of the central banks of 19 nations initially made up this group. Over time, it grew to include political figures from these nations as well. The G20 accounts for more than 75% of worldwide trade, 85% of the global GDP, and two-thirds of the world’s population. Among its members are powerful economies including the United States, China, Japan, Germany, and India.

The G20 hosts summits every year when world leaders gather to debate important economic and international topics such trade, finance, development, and climate change. The forum focuses on advancing global cooperation, correcting economic imbalances, ensuring financial stability, and tackling issues that concern emerging nations.
