The President of India recently conferred the Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards for both 2022 and 2023 to deserving performing artists. This prestigious ceremony took place on March 6th, 2024, at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. In addition to the Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards, President Murmu also conferred the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship (Akademi Ratna) upon six exceptional artists in recognition of their lifelong contributions to the performing arts.

  • R. Visweswaran (Karnataka) – Indian Music
  • Sunayana Hazarilal (Maharashtra) – Indian Dance
  • Raja & Radha Reddy (Delhi) – Indian Dance (Joint Fellowship)
  • Dulal Roy (Assam) – Indian Theatre
  • D.P. Sinha (Uttar Pradesh) – Indian Theatre

  • Akademi Fellow: Highest honour, with a cash prize of Rs. 3,00,000/- (Rupees three lakh).
  • Akademi Award: Prestigious honour, with a cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000/- (Rupees one lakh).
  • Additional Recognition: Both awards include a commemorative plaque (Tamrapatra) and a ceremonial scarf (Angavastram).
Eligibility Indian artists above 75 years old with no prior national honours in their career.
