The Union Cabinet has approved the National Investment Policy for Urea-2026 (NIPU-2026) to encourage investment in gas-based urea manufacturing plants and reduce India’s dependence on imported urea. Why was NIPU-2026 Introduced?

India is one of the world’s largest consumers of urea. Despite having significant manufacturing capacity, domestic production is still insufficient to meet total demand, making imports necessary every year.
