Q) “What are the various factors that sustain life on earth? Give an elaborate answer (10 marks, 150 words) 

पृथ्वी पर जीवन को बनाए रखने वाले विभिन्न कारक कौन से हैं? विस्तृत उत्तर दीजिए।” 

Demand of the Question– The question demands basic understanding of elements of environment, their functioning, ecosystems and man-environment relation.

Directive Word– What- It is a direct keyword which demands mentioning of various factors. Elaborate- demands describing the factors along with some examples.

Structure of the Answer

Intro– Describe what are the elements of an environment and how are they related to each other. Mention some data or report of threat to life. Link it to the factors that control, alter and sustain life on earth.

Body– List all the factors covering diverse ranges, natural and man-made. Elaborate on all the points along with examples. In a small section discuss the threat to life on earth and remedies in the form of what has been done by the Government and others , and what more can be done.

Conclusion– State the importance of balance and existence of all species to sustain life on earth.

Part of Syllabus– GS Paper 3- Conservation, environmental pollution and degradation.

 

Q) “Bring out the significance of different motions of the Earth. (10 marks, 150 words) 

पृथ्वी की विभिन्न गतियों के महत्व पर प्रकाश डालिए। (10 अंक, 150 शब्द)” 

Demand of the Question– This question demands understanding of Solar system and motion of earth and its significance.

Directive Word– Bring out significance- This keyword demands stating what is the importance on various biotic and abiotic elements on earth.

Structure of the Answer

Intro– Describe about the types of motions Earth does, and draw diagrams to represent it.

Body– Cover various aspects of this motion of earth on the biotic and abiotic elements. It can include seasonality, day-night diurnality, life forms, climate, oceans, humans, etc. State the importance of it. Mention a section contrarily in which what would happen if no such motion occurred should be covered.

Conclusion– Summarize the points to bring out the importance of motions of Earth.

Part of Syllabus– GS Paper 1- Important Geophysical phenomena such as earthquakes, Tsunami, Volcanic activity, cyclone etc., geographical features and their location-changes in critical geographical features (including water-bodies and ice-caps) and in flora and fauna and the effects of such changes.

 

Q) What do you understand by the term ‘Global South’? Why is it significant for India? Briefly outline initiatives taken by India for South-South cooperation. (15 mark, 250 word) 

ग्लोबल साउथशब्द से आप क्या समझते हैं? यह भारत के लिए क्यों महत्वपूर्ण है? दक्षिणदक्षिण सहयोग के लिए भारत द्वारा की गई पहलों की संक्षेप में रूपरेखा प्रस्तुत करें। 

Demand of the Question– The question demands understanding of basic terminologies of International Relation- Global South, South-South Cooperation, and its significance, impact and threat/challenges.

Directive Word– What- It demands a basic definition of the concept. Why- It demands mentioning reasons for its significance for India. Briefly Outline-  It demands mentioning of basic crux of various initiatives for South-South Cooperation.

Structure of the Answer

Intro– Describe the term Global South. Give examples of regions and countries that it covers. Mention recent reference of India’s engagement in the Global South.

Body– In part one, state the importance of Global South from the pov of India, cover various aspects ranging from economic, security, diplomatic, military etc. In part two, list out threats and challenges to India’s engagement to Global South, linking to the next part. In the last part, describe the initiatives for South-South Cooperation, why is the need of such initiatives and what are the expected outcomes.

Conclusion– State the importance of India as an emerging leader in the World and in Global South. Thus I need to actively engage and cooperate. Mention unsolved threats and some suggestions to better engage.

Part of Syllabus– GS Paper 2-Bilateral, regional and global groupings and agreements involving India and/or affecting India’s interests.
