The National Energy Conservation Awards (NECA) 2025, organized by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, marked a significant milestone in promoting sustainable energy practices. On December 14, 2025, during National Energy Conservation Day, President Droupadi Murmu felicitated winners at a grand ceremony in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. What Are the National Energy Conservation Awards?
Instituted in 1991, the NECA recognizes industries, institutions, transport entities, buildings, appliances, and innovators for outstanding efforts in reducing energy intensity while maintaining productivity. The awards promote the principle of “energy saved is energy produced,” contributing to reduced greenhouse gas emissions and sustainable growth.
Managed by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), established under the Energy Conservation Act, 2001, NECA encourages adoption of energy-efficient technologies and behavioral changes.

The 2025 edition introduced a groundbreaking category for Digital Content Creators and Influencers, acknowledging the role of social media in raising awareness about energy conservation.
- Applications Received: High participation across sectors.
- Award Structure: 25 First Prizes, 5 Second Prizes, 26 Certificates of Merit, and 3 Certificates of Recognition for Innovation.
- Key Focus: Sectors like industry, buildings, transport, appliances, and state-designated agencies.
The ceremony also honored winners of the National Painting Competition on Energy Conservation 2025, with over 80 lakh students participating.
Notable Winners of National Energy Conservation Awards 2025
Several organizations and states shone brightly:
- Haier India: Historic double win in ‘Appliance of the Year’ for Refrigerator (HRD-2105) and Deep Freezer (HFC-175S) categories.
- Crompton Greaves: Awarded for energy-efficient Stationary Storage Type Electric Water Heater.
- Miyana Railway Station (Madhya Pradesh): Best Performing Unit in Transport (Railway Station) for saving 9,687 electricity units.
- State Performance Awards:
- Group-1: Karnataka (1st), Maharashtra (2nd).
- Group-5: Chandigarh (1st), Tripura (2nd).
These achievements underscore collective efforts toward India’s energy efficiency targets, including savings of 53.60 million tonnes of oil equivalent in 2023-24.
Significance of National Energy Conservation Day and Awards
Observed annually on December 14, National Energy Conservation Day raises awareness about judicious energy use. President Murmu emphasized that energy conservation aligns with India’s cultural ethos and initiatives like Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE), Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, and the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
