World Breastfeeding Week

Every year, from August 1 to August 7, people all across the world observe World Breastfeeding Week. This international effort strives to increase public awareness of breastfeeding and its benefits. The campaign became crucial as infant mortality rates increased as a result of fewer women wanting to nurse their children. While everyone has the right to make their own decisions, the World Health Organisation (WHO) advises nursing up until the kid reaches two. World Breastfeeding Week 2023 Theme

The World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) has set a theme for this year- “Enabling breastfeeding: making a difference for working parents.”

This year’s theme is important because:

• The most frequent cause for women to never breastfeed or to discontinue breastfeeding sooner than advised is still difficulties at work.
• To nurse, parents need enough time and encouragement. Breastfeeding duration was shorter for parents who had taken fewer than three months of leave than for those who had taken three or more months.
• To be a nursing-friendly workplace, a location needs to have adequate breastfeeding facilities. Only 42 nations require nursing rooms in workplaces.
• Inequalities that hinder sustainable development are addressed through safeguarding, encouraging, and assisting breastfeeding.

World Breastfeeding Week History

One of the biggest cooperative initiatives run by international groups like UNICEF and the World Health Organisation (WHO) is World Breastfeeding Week. Another objective of the World Alliance for nursing Action (WABA) is to inform women about the advantages of nursing. Since its inception in 1992, World Breastfeeding Week has had a different theme each year. In 2016, the week began promoting breastfeeding to more women by coordinating its goals with the Sustainable Development Goals (S.D.G.s).

World Breastfeeding Week 2023 Significance

World nursing Week promotes nursing for a predetermined amount of time among mothers all around the world. The campaign aims to raise awareness of the benefits of breastfeeding for both mothers and their infants. It includes facts, dos, and don’ts about breastfeeding as well as advice on things like what a nursing woman should eat and when she should feed the baby.
