Pakistan announced the beginning of “Operation Bunyan Ul Marsoos” on Saturday, May 10, 2025. Named after an inspiring Quranic passage meaning strong, solidified construction, this title emphasises Pakistan’s determination to take revenge upon India’s latest military moves. Read this article to know the meaning of Operation Bunyan Ul Marsoos and its significance.
Pakistan Launches “Operation Bunyan Ul Marsoos” in Retaliation Against India
The Operation Bunyan Ul Marsoos announcement was hours after Pakistan blamed India for launching retaliatory attacks on three of its airbases – Nur Khan Air Base (Rawalpindi), Murid Air Base (Chakwal), and PAF Rafiqui Air Base (Shorkot, Jhang). Though India officially hasn’t approved these attacks on Pakistani air bases yet, these claims sparked an entirely new surge in escalation into the already frayed relationship of the two nuclear-powered neighbours.
Pakistan’s military spokesman stated that the “Operation Bunyan Ul Marsoos” involved precision-guided missile strikes on several key Indian military facilities. While precise locations and the degree of damage to what has been caused are unknown from unimpeachable sources, the spokesman claimed the action was a “befitting response” to India’s reported targeting of Pakistani sovereign space and military assets.
What is the Meaning of Operation Bunyan Ul Marsoos?
The selection of the name “Bunyan Ul Marsoos” has immense symbolic importance. The Quranic passage (Surah As-Saff, 4) refers to those who fight in the cause of Allah in ranks, as if they were a close-knit building attached strongly together. In using this name, Pakistan is seeking to promote the image of national unity, unshakeable solidity, and firm determination in defence against perceived outside threats.
Bunyan Ul Marsoos Meaning in Arabic
The Arabic term “Bunyan Ul Marsoos” (بُنْيَانٌ مَّرْصُوصٌ) actually means “a firm structure” or “a structure cemented“ or “a cemented structure”. It comes from the Quran, Surah As-Saff (Chapter 61), verse 4:
إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ يُحِبُّ ٱلَّذِينَ يُقَٰتِلُونَ فِى سَبِيلِهِۦ صَفًّا كَأَنَّهُم بُنْيَٰنٌ مَّرْصُوعٌ
Which means: “In fact, Allah prefers those who engage in His cause in arrays as if they were a solid building with strong cementing.” (Alternative translations describe them as “a solid wall cemented with molten lead” to show the strength and the closeness).
Operation Bunyan Ul Marsoos vs. Operation Sindoor
Operation Sindoor and Operation Bunyan Ul Marsoos are the names given to the recent escalatory actions between India and Pakistan after the terror attack in Pahalgham on 22nd April 2025.

Conducted By | India | Pakistan |
Date | Commenced on Wednesday, May 7, 2025 | Commenced on Saturday, May 10, 2025 |

India sought to dismantle terrorist bases within Pakistan and PoJK (Pakistan-occupied Kashmir). | Retaliation for India’s Operation Sindoor, or the Indian missile attacks on Pakistani airbases. The term indicates a “firm structure fastened strongly,” a symbol of unity and unyielding defence. |
Nature of Action | India carried out precision missile attacks and employed loitering munitions (reportedly Harop drones) against nine terrorist locations (four in Pakistan and five in PoJK) associated with organisations such as LeT, JeM, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
India stated the operation was “focused, measured, and non-escalatory,” specifically not targeting Pakistani military facilities at first. Subsequent reports mentioned attacks on Pakistani air defence systems and radars in response to attempted Pakistani attacks. |
Pakistan asserted to have conducted precision-guided missile strikes against multiple Indian strategic military targets and made cyberattacks against Indian cyber infrastructure. But this is not confirmed by the Indian Government officially. |
Note |
Why was Operation Sindoor launched by India?
India launched Operation Sindoor as a revenge operation in response to the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam terror attack that killed civilians. India targeted terrorist infrastructure within Pakistan and PoJK that was suspected of being involved in the attack. |
