India-Pakistan Ceasefire Announced with Full and Immediate Effect

India and Pakistan agreed to an immediate and full ceasefire after heightened military tensions on May 10, 2025. The ceasefire, which comes into effect from 5:00 PM IST, was affirmed through a telephonic call between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan. There are further military talks lined up, with the DGMOs to again talk on May 12, suggesting continued efforts towards stabilising the situation.

In a very brief press conference, India confirmed the immediate ceasefire. India’s foreign secretary, Vikram Misri, announced the India-Pakistan Ceasefire with Full and Immediate Effect.

India Confirmed Ceasefire began at 5pm Local time

India’s foreign secretary Vikram Misri said:

It was agreed between them that both sides would stop all fighting and military action on land and in the air and sea with effect from 17:00 Indian standard time today.

Reason for India-Pakistan Ceasefire

This follows an intense escalation in the wake of India’s Operation Sindoor and Pakistan’s Operation Bunyan Ul Marsoos in retaliation, involving allegations of missile attacks on airbases and other military establishments on both sides. The world had demanded the de-escalation immediately, with the G7 being at the forefront.
