Why Is Auli in News?

Auli, located in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, is in the news as one of the venues for the 22nd edition of Yudh Abhyas 2026, the bilateral military exercise between the Indian Army and the US Army.

The exercise commenced on 15 September 2026 and is being conducted simultaneously at Auli Foreign Training Node, Uttarakhand, and Mahajan Field Firing Range, Rajasthan. Around 600 personnel from each country are participating in the exercise.

The 22nd edition of Yudh Abhyas began on 15 September 2026.

The Auli phase provides a mountainous training environment. Troops can practise operations and coordination in terrain characterised by steep slopes, high altitude and difficult weather conditions.

3. Drones and Autonomous Systems

The exercise also focuses on the employment of drones and autonomous systems for activities such as surveillance and reconnaissance.

4. Multi-Domain Warfare

The participating forces are also training with contemporary weapon systems and emerging technologies relevant to multi-domain warfare.
