What is Thirukkural?
The Thirukkural, also known simply as the Kural, is a classical Tamil work traditionally attributed to Thiruvalluvar, the celebrated Tamil poet-philosopher.
The text consists of 1,330 couplets, known as kurals, organised into 133 chapters, with each chapter containing 10 couplets.
Unlike a work devoted to a single subject, the Thirukkural addresses a wide range of issues concerning individual conduct, family life, society, governance, economic activity and human relationships.

This section makes the Thirukkural particularly relevant to discussions on ethical governance and leadership.
3. Inbam – Love
Inbam deals with love and emotional relationships, presenting the human and emotional dimensions of life.
How Old is Thirukkural?
The exact date of composition of the Thirukkural remains a matter of scholarly debate.
Different scholars have proposed dates ranging from the late centuries BCE to the early centuries CE. Therefore, describing it categorically as a “2,500-year-old text” would be historically overconfident.
Nevertheless, the Thirukkural is recognised as an ancient and foundational work of Tamil literary tradition and has retained its influence over many centuries.
