UPSC Introduces New Online Application Portal to Simplify Exam Registration Process

The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) made a huge digital leap forward when it launched a new Online Application Portal (OAP) by May 28, 2025 that aims to minimize and modernize the application process for lakhs of aspirants that appear for various UPSC examinations every year – IAS, IPS, IFS, CDS, NDA, EPFO, CAPF, etc.
This portal offers applicants a common, permanent, and unique application record linked to their Aadhaar, minimizing the overall application process, eliminating last-minute errors, and reducing redundant data entry for aspiring candidates across multiple examinations.

What is the New UPSC Online Application Portal?

The newly launched UPSC portal is designed to make the application process simpler, faster, and more efficient for candidates aspiring to appear for the UPSC Civil Services Exam, Engineering Services Exam, Combined Defence Services, NDA, and other key UPSC exams.

The portal introduces a Universal Application system with four key parts:

2. Universal Registration

3. Common Application Form

4. Examinations

The first three parts—account creation, universal registration, and common application form—are common for all UPSC examinations and can be completed anytime by candidates well in advance of the exam notifications. This modular approach allows aspirants to save crucial time during the hectic exam season by pre-filling their details and documents.

Key Features of the UPSC New Online Portal

1. Aadhaar Card Integration for Seamless Verification

Candidates are strongly advised to use their Aadhaar card as the primary identification document during the universal registration. This ensures easy, effortless, and seamless verification and authentication of identity and other details.

2. Permanent and Common Record

Once registered, the candidate’s details will be stored in a permanent and common database accessible for all UPSC exams, eliminating the need for repeated registrations for different exams.

3. Anytime Registration & Application

The portal’s design allows candidates to complete the initial three stages of registration at their convenience, so they are always ready to apply immediately when the exam notification is released.

4. No More Old One-Time Registration Module

The previous system of one-time registration will be phased out. The UPSC clarified that henceforth, all aspirants must use the new universal application system available at https://upsconline.nic.in.
