Karnataka Civil Judge Recruitment 2025: Last Date Extended

The High Court of Karnataka has extended the last date for submission of online applications for 158 Civil Judge posts (including 24 backlog posts). As per Notification No. HCRB/CJR-1/2024 dated 18.08.2025, candidates can now apply until 01.09.2025, while the last date for fee payment is 02.09.2025 (11:59 p.m.). Earlier, the recruitment was kept in abeyance due to pending cases before the Supreme Court, which have now been resolved. The method of recruitment, reservation, eligibility, age limit, and enrolment as an advocate remain unchanged as per the original notification dated 10.02.2025.

Karnataka Judiciary Exam Pattern 2025

The exam is conducted in four stages – Prelims, Mains, Viva-Voce, and Computer Test.

1. Preliminary Examination (Objective – 100 Marks)

The Prelims is an objective type test with 100 multiple-choice questions.

  • Part A: Civil Procedure Code, Negotiable Instruments Act, Transfer of Property Act, Contract Act, Specific Relief Act, Constitution of India, Karnataka Rent Act

  • Part B: CrPC, IPC, Evidence Act, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS 2023), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS 2023), Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA 2023)

  • Part C: General Knowledge, Reasoning, Mental Ability

2. Mains Examination (Descriptive – 400 Marks)

The Mains is a descriptive exam with four papers:

  • Translation Paper: 100 marks (English ↔ Kannada translation of judgments, depositions, and legal documents)

  • Law Paper I: CPC, CrPC, BNSS, Constitution, Evidence Act, BSA, Principles of Pleading

  • Law Paper II: Judgment writing in Civil Cases & Issue Framing

  • Law Paper III: Judgment writing in Criminal Cases & Charge Framing

Each paper carries 100 marks, making a total of 400 marks.

3. Viva-Voce (Interview – 100 Marks)
