The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to achieve another historic milestone with the launch of BlueBird-6, the largest and heaviest US commercial satellite ever, on December 21, 2025. The mission, originally scheduled for December 15, was rescheduled due to extended pre-launch activities, including the integration of the LVM3 heavy-lift launch vehicle.
This ambitious mission highlights India’s growing stature as a global commercial launch service provider and marks a significant chapter in Indo-US space cooperation.
What is BlueBird-6?
BlueBird-6 is an advanced communication satellite developed by AST SpaceMobile, a US-based space technology company. It is designed to revolutionise global telecommunications by enabling direct-to-device broadband connectivity, especially in remote and underserved regions of the world.
With a massive weight of approximately 6.5 tonnes, BlueBird-6 will be launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, using ISRO’s proven LVM3 rocket.
