Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai visited the remote village of Galgam in Bijapur district to commend security forces for their success in the Karregutta Hills operation. He emphasized the state’s commitment to eradicating Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) by March 2026, aligning with the Union Government’s target. The Chief Minister also highlighted the transformation of security camps into “facilitation centers,” providing essential services like healthcare, electricity, and education to isolated areas.
Challenges and Criticisms
Despite the operation’s successes, former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel criticized the state government’s handling of anti-Maoist operations, specifically “Operation Sankalp.” He questioned the transparency and coordination within the administration, pointing out discrepancies between Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai’s and Home Minister Vijay Sharma’s statements. Baghel demanded accountability from the CM and Home Minister, seeking clarity on the number of casualties and the course of the operation.
Future Outlook
The success of Operation Sankalp marks a significant step toward dismantling Maoist strongholds in Chhattisgarh. The ongoing efforts aim to further weaken the PLGA and other Maoist factions, contributing to the broader goal of a Naxal-free India by 2026.
