One District One Product (ODOP): Boosting Local Economy and Indigenous Industries

ODOP strengthens district economies by branding unique local products, empowering artisans, boosting MSMEs, and expanding exports through digital platforms and exhibitions. PM Ekta Malls complement ODOP by providing dedicated retail spaces for ODOP and GI-tagged goods, combining cultural showcasing with commercial outreach to advance Aatmanirbhar Bharat and inclusive growth sustainably.

About ODOP

    • The One District One Product (ODOP) initiative is a flagship programme of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade aimed at transforming India’s district-level economies by identifying, branding, and globally promoting a unique product from each district. 
    • Originally piloted in Uttar Pradesh, ODOP has now been scaled across more than 770 districts nationwide, empowering artisans and producers and creating vibrant local livelihood ecosystems.
  • Implementation
      • ODOP operates through collaboration between central ministries, state governments, and district administrations to select products based on existing value chains and potential.
      • Products are featured on digital platforms such as the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) and promoted at trade exhibitions, national fairs, and international showcases.
  • Impact and Achievements
    • Over 1,200 district products from varied sectors—including textiles, handicrafts, food, and minerals—are listed on the ODOP digital portal.
    • In Uttar Pradesh, exports surged by about 76% from ₹88,967 crore in 2017–18 to ₹1.71 lakh crore in 2023–24, driven partly by ODOP promotion.
    • More than 1.25 crore artisans have received training and modern toolkits under the ODOP Skill Development & Toolkit Distribution Scheme.
PM Ekta Malls
 

  • PM Ekta Malls (Unity Malls) are envisaged as dedicated retail hubs where states and Union Territories can showcase ODOP, GI-tagged, and handicraft products under one roof, boosting visibility and consumer access.
  • These malls combine cultural representation with commercial outreach, featuring experience zones, theatres, and consumer amenities while promoting Aatmanirbhar Bharat’s vision.
