Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Syllabus
The UPSC provides a common syllabus pattern for diffrent services such as the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, Indian Police Service, Indian Revenue Service
The exam is conducted in three phases:
- Phase 1: Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination (Objective Type)
- Phase 2: Civil Services (Mains) Examination (Descriptive Type)
- Phase 3: Personal Interview (Personality Test)
PHASE 1: CIVIL SERVICES (PRELIMINARY)
EXAMI The Pre Econtains two parts:
1) GS- General Studies
2) CSAT- Civil Services Aptitude Test

|2||CSAT||200||2 hours (2:30 PM - 4:30 PM)|
UPSC Exam comprises of two papers of objective(MCQ Based) type, every one is of 200 marks i.e. totl 400 marks and of 2hrs duration. To qualify Civil Services Mains, a candidate must clear both the gs and csat exam papers.
To qualify general studies paper 1 candidate must score atleast the cut-off mark declared by the UPSC and in CSAT paper, the candidate must score at least one third of total marks(200) means i.e. sixty-six marks.
GS paper comprises of 100 ques, while the CSAT paper consists of eighty question. Both papers have negative marks for wrong answers marked to the tune of one thirdrd of the total marks assigned to that question.
Non - Attempted Questions will not count any negative marks.
The two papers of the upsc prelims are listed:
1) General Studies (GS)
The GS test is the first paper of the pre exam.
Syllabus for GS
- Current events of national and international importance.
- History of India and Indian National Movement.
- Indian and World Geography – Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World.
- Indian Polity and Governance – Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
- Economic and Social Development – Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc.
- General issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change – that do not require subject specialisation
- General Science
2) UPSC TEST (CSAT)
This test is for‘Reasoning and other aptitude topics that are included in the syllabus:
Syllabus for CSAT
- Interpersonal skills including communication skills
- Logical reasoning and analytical ability
- Decision-making and problem solving
- General mental ability
- Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. – Class X level)
PHASE 2: CIVIL SERVICES (MAINS) EXAMINATION
- Part 2nd of UPSC Exam is Mains Of Civil Services Examination. if you qualify the pre of upsc exam would the candidates be allowed to attempt the upsc Mains.
- This part evaluate the candidates ability and knowledge in time framed manner.
- Mains exam comprises of nine papers, in them 2 are qualifying papers of three hundred marks.
- 2 qualifying papers are:
- Any Indian Language
- English Language Paper
The papers on Essay, General Studies and Optional Subject of simplest those candidates who gain 25% marks in every of the language papers at the least qualifying popular in these qualifying papers, may be taken recognition for evaluation.In case a candidate does now not qualify in those language papers, then the marks obtained through such candidates in other papers will not be considered or counted.
Structure of the language papers:

PHASE 3: INTERVIEW/PERSONALITY TEST
