V.S. Kaumudi as DG of Bureau of Police Research and Development

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has appointed senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer V.S. Kaumudi as Director General (ADG level) of Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D). It also has downgraded post to level of Additional Director General (ADG).  He succeeds 1984 batch IPS officer Sudeep Lakhtakia. He will have tenure of two years or until further orders, whichever is earlier. He is 1986 batch Andhra Pradesh cadre IPS officer. He is presently working as ADG in Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

About Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D)

  • It is a national police research organisation to study, R&D on subjects and issues related to policing for the purpose of modernisation of police forces.
  • It was established in 1970. It is headquarters in New Delhi. It functions under Union Home Ministry.
  • It is mandated to furtherance of the objective of Central Government’s for the modernisation of police forces.
  • It has evolved as multifaceted, consultancy organisation. At present it has 4 divisions – Research, Development, Training and Correctional Administration.
  • Note: In 2017, Union government merged National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) with Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD for improving administrative efficiency and optimally utilising resources related to policing.
