Uttar Pradesh cadre Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Aparna Kumar became first civil servant and IPS officer to complete 7 Summits Challenge (scaling highest mountains on each of seven continents). She achieved this feat by scaling Mount Denali, the highest peak in North America. She scaled the summit of this peak in her third attempt.
About Mount Denali
- It is located in the Alaska Range and Denali National Park in Alaska State of US.
- Height: Its peak is 20,310 feet (6,190 meters) above sea level. It is tallest mountain in North America and. It is third highest mountain of seven summits following Mount Everest (Nepal) and Aconcagua (Argentina).
- Renaming: It was called Mount McKinley till 2015. It was officially named to its original name Denali by then US President Barack Obama after protests by native Koyukon Athabascan people who called mountain Denali (which translates as "The Great One").
She is 2002 batch IPS officer from UP cadre. She is currently posted as Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Northern Frontier in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. She is first woman IPS and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) officer to successfully complete South Pole expedition.
