China launches Type 052D guided missile destroyers

  • China’s People’s Liberation Army Navy(PLAN) has commissioned two new Type 052D guided missile destroyers in Dalian, a coastal city. They are named as Tangshan and Suzhou.
  • They are 19th and 20th ships in the class. China, at present has 20 Type 052Ds either in active service or to be launched for service soon.
  • These destroyers are fast and warships are operated for long distances. In addition, they can be used to accompany the aircraft carriers.
  • The newly developed Type 052D destroyers are upgrades of its previous version Type 052C.
  • The Type 052D destroyer is large 7500 tone destroyer. It was introduced into China’s Navy in March 2014.

  • Hong Kong Stock market surpassed Japan Stock exchange to become the world’s third most valuable market. Now it is behind the US and China.
  • Hong Kong stock markets value stood at $5.78 trillion, surpassing Japan’s stock market value at $5.76 trillion tally.
  • Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index has increased by 17% this year. Topix Index of Japan advanced at 8.3% in this period.

  • According to first edition of Forbes World’s Best Bank survey, HDFC Bank has been recognized as number one bank by customers in India.
  • The survey was conducted by Forbers with  help of market research firm ‘Statista’. It had measure best banks in 23 countries.
  • It was based on customer’s satisfaction as well as fice key attributes of trust, terms and conditions, customer service, digital service, and financial advice.
  • ICICI Bank was ranked second followed by DBS bank grabbed the third position, Kotak Mahindra Bank at fourth and IDFC Bank at fifth spot.
  • Public sector banks like Syndicate Bank, Punbaj Natonal Bank (PNB), Allahabad Bank, Vijaya Bank, and Axis Bank also were ranked in the top 10.

EC Bans display of biopics during MCC

  • Electoral Commission of India (ECI) has banned display of any biopic or publicity material during Manual Code of Conduct (MCC).
  • In this regard, it has invoked powers under Article 324 to prohibit display/exhibit any biopic/publicity material.
  • This decision aims to sub serve purposes of any political entity or any individual entity connected to it.
  • The ban was concerned with biopic film on Prime Minister Narendra Modi based on the directive of Supreme Court.

Kanpur: World’s most polluted city

  • Kanpur (in Uttar Pradesh) was ranked world’s most polluted city in WHO’s (World Health Organisation) list of 15 most polluted cities in the world.
  • The list of top polluted list was released as part of  ‘Political Leaders Position and Action on Air Quality in India 2014-2019’ report, released by Climate Trends.
  • Faridabad in Haryana was ranked 2nd position, Varanasi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Lok Sabha constituency was ranked 3rd.
  • Delhi is ranked 6th on the list. Other than these, the list also included Gaya and Patna in Bihar, Lucknow, f Agra, Muzaffarpur, Srinagar, Gurugram, Jaipur, Patiala and Jodhpur in top 15 polluted cities list.
