The United Nations has designated 15 November 2022 as ‘the Day of Eight Billion’ as it marks the day on which the world is population is projected to reach eight billion, as per the World Population

It is the twenty-seventh edition of official United Nations population estimates and projections that have been prepared by the Population Division of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations Secretariat.

The global population will reach 8 billion on November 15, 2022, more than three times the population of 2.5 billion in 1950.

The UN report finds that in 2020, for the first time since 1950, the rate of population growth fell below 1 percent per year and it is projected to continue to slow in the next few decades and through the end of this century.

The world’s two most populous regions in 2022 were Eastern and South-Eastern Asia, with 2.3 billion people, representing 29 percent of the global population, and Central and Southern Asia, with 2.1 billion (26 percent).

The report had said that India’s population stands at 412 billion in 2022, compared to China’s 1.426 billion. India’s growth rate stood at 3 % in 1972, which has dropped down to less than 1% now.
