UPSC CSE 2023 Exam: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) organizes the Civil Services Examination (CSE), which is one of the most desirable examinations in India. UPSC CSE 2023 Exam Pattern

UPSC CSE Exam Pattern 2023: The IAS exam is another name for the UPSC Civil Services Examination (CSE). Every year, the CSE is conducted for lakhs of applicants to take the examination, but only a handful of applicants are chosen. The UPSC CSE is a three-stage examination that consists of:

  • Preliminary Examination (Prelims Exam)
  • Main Examination (Mains Exam)

The preliminary examination is an objective type screening test. Candidates who pass the preliminary exam proceed to the main exam which consists of 9 papers i.e., Essay paper, English, General Studies, and Optional Subject papers. UPSC CSE 2023 Application Form

The Union Public Service Commission will provide applicants with around 20 days to submit a successful application for the UPSC CSE 2023 prelims form. The online application process to register for the UPSC CSE 2023 began on February 1, 2023, and the deadline to apply online is February 21, 2023. 

How to Apply Online for UPSC CSE 2023?

Candidates must submit their applications online using the UPSC official website. On the website, there are detailed instructions for filling up online applications. The applicants are recommended to submit just one application; however, if they must submit additional or more applications for any reason, they must make sure that the application with the highest RID (registration Id) is complete in every aspect. There are a few steps to apply for the UPSC CSE 2023 examination such as:

  • Visit the UPSC recruitment official website under the Active Examinations section
  • Go to Registration and create a one-time registration profile
  • Login to fill out the application form
    • Enter your Name, Date of Birth, Active Email Address and Mobile Number
    • Fill in all the personal and professional details
    • Upload relevant documents and submit (Candidates should fill out the Part-I and Part-II of the online application form)
  • Pay the application fee i.e., Rs. 100/- through Online / Offline Mode

UPSC CSE 2023 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who want to qualify for the UPSC CSE 2023 examination in order to become IAS/ IPS/ IFS and other officers must fulfil all the eligibility requirements mentioned in the official notification. UPSC CSE 2023 Nationality Condition

  • For the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), the Indian Foreign Service (IFS) and the Indian Police Service (IPS), a candidate must be a citizen of India. 
  • For other services, a candidate must be either:
    • a citizen of India, or
    • a subject of Nepal, or
    • a subject of Bhutan, or 
    • a Tibetan refugee who entered India prior to January 1, 1962, with the purpose to settle there permanently, or
    • a person of Indian origin who moved to India with the purpose of residing there permanently, primarily from Vietnam, Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, or the East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia.

UPSC CSE 2023 Age Limit

UPSC Age Limit: A candidate must have a minimum age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 32 years.

Candidates seeking benefits for SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwBD/Ex-Servicemen must make sure they are eligible for those benefits according to the eligibility requirements mentioned in the Rules/Notice.

UPSC CSE 2023 EWS Reservation

A candidate for UPSC CSE 2023 will only be qualified to receive the benefits of the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) Reservation if they meet the requirements established by the Central Government and are in possession of the necessary Income & Asset Certificate based on the income for Financial Year (FY) 2021–2022. In the UPSC CSE 2023, there is no age relaxation for the Economically Weaker Sections.

UPSC CSE 2023 Educational Qualification

A candidate must possess an equivalent degree or hold a graduate degree from any of the Indian universities established by an act of the central or state legislature, or from one of the other educational institutions recognised as universities under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956.

UPSC CSE 2023 Number of Attempts

Each candidate who appears for the UPSC CSE 2023 examination and is otherwise eligible to give the examination is liable to six (6) attempts to take the UPSC CSE. Candidates from the SC/ST/OBC and PwBD categories who are otherwise eligible, however, will be allowed a relaxation in the number of attempts. Such candidates may make the following number of attempts under the relaxation:

UPSC CSE 2023 Online Application Last Date

The last date for the UPSC CSE 2023 prelims online application is 21st February 2023 till 6:00 PM after that the link will be disabled. Candidates are strongly recommended to apply online well in time without waiting for the last date for submission of Online Applications.

UPSC CSE 2023 Result

UPSC will release the UPSC CSE 2023 prelims stage results probably in June/July 2023 and will release the qualified candidates for stage II (Main Examination) PDF list on their official website. An applicant must clear the cutoff for the preliminary stage as determined by the commission in order to proceed to the next stage. UPSC CSE 2023 Exam Fees

UPSC CSE 2023 Exam Fees: Candidates must pay a fee of Rs. 100/- (Rupees One Hundred Only) either by remitting the money to any State Bank of India (SBI) branch, by using a Visa, Mastercard, or RuPay credit or debit card, or by using SBI’s Internet Banking. All Female/SC/ST/Persons with benchmark disabilities candidates are exempted from paying a fee. However, OBC/EWS candidates are not eligible for any fee exemptions and must pay the entire amount of the specified fee.

UPSC CSE 2023 Vacancy

The UPSC has not yet announced the UPSC CSE 2023 Vacancy information. They will subsequently announce the number of vacant positions for different job profiles on its official website after providing the UPSC CSE 2023 notification.

According to a UPSC official, 11.52 lakh applicants applied to take the examinations in 2022, and 13090 of them successfully qualified for the UPSC CSE Mains 2022 i.e., stage II. The official added that the number of vacancies for the Civil Services Examination 2022 has increased from the initial 861 to 1,022. Compared to the past few years, the 2022 vacancy is one of the highest among all. For more clarity, the number of vacancies in past years is given below in the table:

UPSC CSE 2023 Salary

UPSC CSE is India’s prestigious service which provides a very lucrative salary, emoluments, perks and above all respect and honour in society. It also provides power and responsibilities to the candidate. These are the major factors to attract a candidate for this job. Such compensation is not offered by any other jobs in India. 

Under the new pay structure of the 7th Central Pay Commission, “Consolidated Pay Levels” have replaced the “Pay Grades for Civil Services” system. Now, the IAS pay scale is determined by the “Basic Pay” combined with TA, DA, and HRA. All IAS officers begin with the same starting salary, which rises as they gain experience and receive promotions. The entry-level basic pay for IAS offices is Rs. 56100 (excluding TA, DA and HRA) per month and that can go up to Rs. 2,50,000 for a level of Cabinet Secretary.

UPSC CSE 2023 Selection Process

Civil service is such examination which is conducted by the UPSC every year. It is a three-stage examination namely Prelims, Mains and Personality Test. A prelims examination is an objective type (multiple choice questions) paper whose marks are not counted for final merit. This stage includes two General studies papers i.e., GS Paper 1 (Subject specific) and GS Paper 2 (CSAT). CSAT is just a qualifying paper (minimum 33% score required). There is a negative marking i.e., one-third (0.33) of the marks assigned to the question are deducted for every wrong answer for both Paper 1 and Paper 2.

To crack UPSC CSE 2023 on the First Attempt for any medium (English/Hindi/Other Languages) aspirants, Candidates are urged to diligently read the syllabus and according to that read fundamental books/resources for clearing their concepts. A candidate should make sure that all subjects covered in the IAS syllabus and current events are in-depth. The selection for the IAS Exam depends heavily on the resources you choose and the revisions that you have done during your preparation.

  • Examine the UPSC CSE Syllabus and Exam Pattern first.
  • Preparation of prelims and mains should be integrated but the approach will be different.
  • NCERT books are fundamental books for building up the basic concepts and also refer to the Foundational Books of StudyIQ like Fundamentals of Geography, Indian Geography, Indian Polity etc. for reference.

The candidate should carefully consider his or her choice of examination centre before submitting his or her application. The papers of any candidate who arrives at a location other than the one listed by the Commission in their Admission Certificate will not be examined, and their candidature may be cancelled.

UPSC CSE 2023 Admit Card

On May 28, 2023 (Sunday), across India, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will conduct the UPSC CSE 2023 Examination. The UPSC will upload the e-Admit card for the convenience of the admitted candidates on its website (http://upsconline.nic.in). It is advised that the applicants download and print their electronic admit cards. Until the announcement of the Civil Services Examination, 2023 final results, the e-Admit Card must be kept safe and secure. There would not be a printed admit card for this examination.

For the purpose of appearing in the UPSC CSE 2023 Examination, the applicants must present a printout of their electronic admit card. In order to appear at each session of the exam, candidates must also bring their photo ID card, whose number is listed on the e-Admit Card.

Important Instructions to the Candidates
The entrance to the examination venue will close 10 minutes before the examination’s scheduled start time, which is 09.20 A.M. for the forenoon session and 02.20 P.M. for the afternoon session. After the entrance gate has closed, no candidate may enter the examination venue.
